{ μέτρον ἄριστον | Cleobulus from Rhodes }

Cleobulus (Greek: Kleovoulos) (6th Century BC) was a greek poet and one of the Seven Sages of Greece. He lived in Lindos, Rhodes. He traveled to Egypt where he studied philosophy. As a poet, Cleobulus composed poems and riddles that numbered 3,000 verses in total. His epigram, “metron ariston”, is one of the most famous ancient Greek quotes.

Ancient Greeks strongly believed that one should try to find the golden mean in every aspect of one’s life and avoid the extremes on either side, as much as possible. Because having both qualities produces harmony; goodness and beauty.
